Exalted – Infernals (Fiend Caste)

May 18, 2010

Finally, we have come to my absolute favorite Exalt Caste of all: the Fiends.

The Ebon Dragon, mastermind of the Reclamation, chose the Eclipse Caste Exaltations to be his Chosen. The Ebon Dragon was changed least of all the Yozis, and it was his nature to be cunning and spiteful. All the Yozis interpret the four Virtues (Compassion, Conviction, Temperance, and Valor) differently, but the Ebon Dragon is devoid of them all. He is a merciless, weaselly, self-indulgent coward, the ultimate bastard. Of all the beings in the Exalted world, he is the only one who is objectively evil. In fact, he is the Exalted equivalent of Lucifer, for it was by becoming the shadow of the Unconquered Sun himself, the embodiment of all virtue, that he became the progenitor of all evil.

The Caste Abilities for the Fiends are the same as those of the Eclipse: Bureaucracy, Linguistics, Ride, Sail, and Socialize. It is through loopholes and lies that the Ebon Dragon spreads his corruption, and there is nowhere it cannot go, no language he cannot speak, even if only to infect others with his spite.

The Ebon Dragon’s magic is different than that of the other Yozis. Where the other Yozis draw on themselves, he draws on others, draining them of their success. Where the other Yozis make themselves stronger, he makes others weaker. He demands to be first, most victorious, but he defines his victories through the failure of his foes. So long as he benefits more, he is spitefully satisfied.

In this, his Fiends follow him. However, they are not the Ebon Dragon. They can draw on the magic of the other Yozis. They are not without virtue. While use of his Charms does make one more like the Ebon Dragon, the Fiends will likely be the first to realize how little they are like their patron… and how much freedom that gives them.
